This is not a new endeavor, not for me nor for legions of readers across the blogosphere. This will, however, be the first time I've completed the task at hand. This year, 2014, will be the year I complete the task of reading 52 books in 52 weeks. As January 1 is still over two weeks away, I'm feeling more anxious than anything. I just want to get started! I'm currently finishing up a few books I've been chipping away at for awhile (not particularly engaging reads that I'm glad I'll have gotten out of the way BEFORE I start into my adventure) and compiling a list of suggestions from friends, coworkers and family members for my 52 books. Before I actually start reading, I'm working through some ground rules.
The basics:
- Books can be started or completed whenever, there won't be a rigid week 1, week 2, week 3, etc format.
- Children's books don't count toward the total of 52.
- 1/4 of the books may be "rereads" in the sense that they're books I've already read. Qualifying rereads, however, can only be books I read BEFORE January 1, 2013.
Still up for debate:
- Are YA books acceptable toward the total?
- What about graphic novels?
- Is there a qualifying length (i.e. books must be 150 pages or greater, etc.) or should I assume it'll all even out?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments section, as well as any suggestions for my 52!
